Dogwood Chapter 8

Sweep is a 5-Letter Word

Sweep is a 5-letter word. Porch is a 5-letter word. Dance. Bambi.

But sweep first of these. The action of cleansing. Also of winning everything. Of gracefully carrying you off balance. I myself have been swept off my feet a time or three. And I’m also so crazy about YOU. Crazy is a 5-letter word.

Is it ironic that seven is a 5-letter word? I should check in with 4 and see how she’s doing since the kids moved out.

Speaking of, did you know that the number 4 across time and culture has symbolized balance to the universe? 4 corners of the globe. Earth. Water. Air. Fire. 4 seasons. 4 legs of the chair. The table. Balance and stability. Foundation. The ancient Egyptians believed that reality itself was held up on 4 columns that were called the Djed. I think it’s hilarious that Djed is spelled like “the other night I ‘DJed’ at my friend’s orgy.” I’m not a DJ but I hear there’s a shortage.

Just remember that the number 4 means divine completeness transcending culture, and time, and Beyoncé references. And here we find ourselves at 5. We’re halfway through season 5 of haus of bambi. That’s weird. Weird is a 5-letter word.

So if 4  represents balance. A secure, closed box. 4 walls of a haus. Then five is one step beyond. A bridge to more. What’s more? 5. A bridge and a door. A threshold moment beyond the safety and comfort of completeness. A door for this haus. 4 walls need a door. Otherwise they’re just a tomb.

Throw any dancer a 4 and they’ll give you a 5, 6, 7, 8. But before we dance, of course, we need to sweep the floor. Floor is a 5-letter word. I like to thank the floor for holding me. Thank is a 5-letter word.

Besos, Bambi.
